Register Your Business Online with Revenu Quebec


Don’t you just love things that save you time? If you enjoy having more time to yourself and like using your work time efficiently, you’re in luck; on February 8, Revenu Quebec announced a new online service – business registration.

To use this service, you must not be registering a partnership, a trust, a trustee, a corporation formed as a result of an amalgamation or a public authority not registered with the Registraire des entreprises. You must also have the authority to act on behalf of the business.

To register your business online, you’ll need to have several documents handy. Print off this checklist and gather this information before you get started.

If you get started and realize you don’t have all the information, or you are interrupted, you can come back later to finish your application by choosing the “finish completing a previous application” button on the start page. Once you have completed your application, you can track its status online and also obtain your file number.

The process is very straightforward, so don’t worry if you are not a “computer person”.  After you press the start button on the application, you’ll be asked a series of questions and have to fill in several blanks. Many of the questions have radio buttons, so a simple mouse click is all you need to choose your answer.

Companies that complete the Register a New Business feature can securely do the following transactions online:

  • Corporation income tax
  • Source deductions
  • The Goods and Services Tax (GST)
  • Québec Sales Tax (QST)

Registering your new business online is a great idea. It saves you the time it takes to drive to the agency, find parking, stand in line and then learn you have forgotten some of the necessary documents. It’s also a good practice to take advantage of as many CRA and Revenu Quebec online functions as possible. This helps their already overloaded system to move along with greater efficiency, minimizes the number of mistakes that can be made by either party and provides a handy electronic record.
